Wall Shelving

We designed and digitally fabricated this wall mounted shelving unit in our workshop in Amsterdam.

The joinery piece was considered as a squarely proportioned building to be displayed on our clients wall. In elevation the total height is divided in three equal parts and in width by four. Both sides of the unit have shelves ensuring there are no blank facades and also help create mass to the front elevation.

The overall size was chosen to ensure all the component pieces could be cut from a single piece of sheet material with little wastage.

The approach to the design is intended to allow the simple customisation in both size and colour. The piece has also been conceived as a piece of space dividing free-standing joinery.

It has two removable sliding doors that are guided by recessed channels that were digitally routed into the bottom two plates.

It’s made from royal blue coloured mdf, has exposed beech domino joints and is finished with a hard wax oil. The unit is hung using a simple french cleat which creates a shadow gap with the wall.
